Frank - Frankie's Dad

Okay, so now I'm writing about my husband. I'm the one who spearheaded this web site, so basically, I get to write what I want! ha ha ha!!!

Frank is amazing with Frankie. He's an unbelievable father and an incredible husband. I don't know what we would do without his strength, humor and love. He does everything for Frankie, without question.

Each day, Frank and Frankie have a special block of time when it's just them. And, although there are moments when I'm calling on my commute home, when he's frantically trying to get Frankie to eat a vegetable, I know he would never want to give up that time.

About Frank

The above picture was taken June 22, 2005. I promised Frank I'd update the picture when I found one that I truly did like... and this one won. Despite everything we're going through, we still manage to keep smiles on our faces. I think it's because the doctors and nurses here really do tell you what to expect every step of the way. There aren't really any surprises, so it's easier to prepare for things.

Frank has become very diligent in making sure that everything in Frankie's room remains sterile. I'm not saying that I don't, but Frank is definitely the guard dog. He's also very good about holding Frankie down when he's getting his dressings changed, having his levels (blood) drawn, or any other time Frankie does not want to sit still.

Today, Frank and I went to the Parent Support Group meeting (held every Thursday for any family members who need to talk), and as typical of Frank, he was the token male and brought along his light-hearted humor to the room. He entertained so much, that we ended up running an hour over the normal time frame for the group session!

Don't get me wrong, we weren't laughing it up the entire time, but I think being new and not yet experiencing what everyone else is right now, we definitely have a brighter attitude (so far). Frank made the comment after the meeting that outside of the Unit, we're a rarity... outside of the Unit, we're just run-of-the-mill. As one of the women said at the meeting tonight... "If your child was normal, you wouldn't be here."
