Frankie's Transplant Journey

HUGE SUCCESS!!!

First, I have to thank my brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Dave and Amy Greco, for throwing together an absolutely fabulous fund raiser for Frankie last night at LuDal's in North Haven! WOW! What a great night!

Second, thanks go to Alison and Dalton, owners of LuDal's, for whom without their immediate support of the fund raiser, last night could not have been the success it was. THANK YOU, THANK YOU!

Third, many thanks to everyone who donated their time, efforts and money to make last night possible. We met so many wonderful people last night that I cannot even begin to do them justice thanking via this web site. I'm hoping to have pictures to post by the end of this week, so keep your eyes open for them! Suzie, you were awesome! Thanks so much for giving your time and talent for taking photos (Net Martin Photography)!

So, here I sit, wondering what to write to truly express how grateful we are for having such amazing support! We were so happy that Frankie was well enough to join us last night at the fund raiser. And, for those of you who were there, he was SO READY to go to bed when we got home! And, I had to wake him up this morning to get him ready for school! A first!

I cannot tell you how honored I am to be surrounded by such wonderful, caring people. I have my son to continually thank for that.

Over the past week, Dave had asked me to get about 50 or so pictures that would document Frankie's life so he could show them at the event last night. He told me that his friend, Tim, would put them together nicely, with music, so it could play like a mini-movie. And, while I was going through all of the many, many photographs I have of Frankie, I picked out those that would truly represent his journey, realizing it was difficult to stop at just 50 pictures!

And, even while I was looking through them, reminiscing the past three years, nothing could have prepared me for the final product. Tim, you did a fabulous job. I really don't think there was a dry eye in the restaurant after that. I was SO NOT prepared for the mini-movie in its entirety. I cried my eyes out. Frank cried, and for that to happen, well, that's saying something.

I wish I knew more about this program, because I'd put the video up for you all to see. If I can read up quickly on it, maybe I will. I make no promises, though. I'm not that handy when it comes to this web site. I basically just write.

Well, we had a good run. A few weeks, I think. We've been admitted to the hospital this morning. Nothing crazy, just the same stuff. And, in keeping with that theme, as soon as Frankie got his shot and fluids, he perked right back up. So, he looks completely healthy right now.

Side note... we had a nice trip to the zoo yesterday with my mother and one of Frankie's cousins, Victoria. It was a great time. I'll post some pictures some time soon, as well as pictures from LuDal's fund raiser.

Frankie was discharged on Friday night. There was some back-and-forth between the doctors, but we were finally allowed to go home, 12 hours shy of the standard 48 hour waiting period for blood cultures. I hesitate to write immediately when we are "released" only because we've had some instances where we've basically turned right around and been re-admitted.

That being said, we were able to enjoy a nice weekend, with only a slight medical issue... only this time, it was Frank, not Frankie. On Friday, Frank's right eye was completely blood-shot red. With some help from a very dear friend (Marissa), Frank was able to get an appointment to see an eye doctor on Saturday morning. He was diagnosed with a very contagious viral conjunctivitis (sp?). Wiping your hands with the Purell stuff does not work for this... you have to wash your hands basically 50 times a day. And, immediately after finding out about the "very contagious" part of it, Frank was no longer allowed to touch Frankie. It's been killing him not to smooch on him!

Tuesday is Frank's 33rd birthday! Happy Birthday, my love! If you get a chance, pop him an email to wish him a Happy Birthday! frank@frankiepants.com
