Much has occurred in all of our lives over the past few weeks. Frankie has had his ups and downs with colds, vomiting, crazy blood counts/chemistries/levels. But, today, things are going well.
Before I get too involved in my update, I wanted to extend a HUGE THANK YOU to the Maturo family and all of the wonderfully generous people who donated to Frankie's COTA fund as a result of the Maturo's fund raiser on Sunday, September 10th. I will be sending the checks today to COTA as my contact was on vacation, and I wanted her to get them directly. The Maturo's were able to raise over $5,000 for Frankie!! Their generosity, the Maturo's and their contributors, is just amazing.
On Frankie:
We had to go to clinic this morning for a recheck of his FK level. We changed his dose last week, so the doctors want to make sure the level is where it should be. He's now getting to the point when he recognizes the freeze spray they use on his port to access it, so it takes roughly two to three people to hold him down while his nurse has to put in the needle. Not even his favorite Barney or Blue's Clues video can detract his attention for this.
We had a meeting with Frankie's school this past week, too. We'll be having a special ed teacher come to the house three times a week, PT and OT once a week and ST twice a week. This is all in place until he's healthy enough to attend preschool (including up to date immunizations).
On me:
Today, it's beautiful outside. It is perfect autumn weather... my favorite time of year. I turned 35 last week. I'm still trying to wrap my mind around that, but it's not the age that gets me, it's where I expected to be at this point in my life that affects me more. But, that's a completely different story, and really not one meant for this web site.
I had planned to go back to work part-time starting last week. But, things weren't so good with Frankie that it dawned on me that now just wasn't the time. So, as the funds are stretched tight, and we redo our budgeting strategy, I'm investigating options of working from the home. Wish me luck!
On Frank:
Frank continues to be my shoulder. He's got so much going on, and yet he is still able to keep focused on family, on me and Frankie. With mid-terms, papers and classes each week, he still keeps what matters first... FAMILY. We have projects we're trying to complete around the house little by little, but we only do them after Frankie goes to bed, so he can have as much "daddy-son" time as possible. I love to watch them together, especially when Frank gets Frankie laughing uncontrollably. They are my best friends, and I wouldn't have it any other way.
